Willington Dovecote & Stables

I took Max for a grooming session in Sandy, Bedfordshire, last week. After I had dropped him off I had a couple of hours to spare so I drove back to Willington which I had passed on the way out, to visit this National Trust location.

I did visit it many years ago out of curiosity, There is not much there but it’s worth photographing. You cant get into the buildings and there is no information about them.

I felt it was about was about time for another visit and a good opportunity to try out some black & white photography. I have taken a fancy for black and white pictures recently. I think it particularly suits pictures of old buildings

I decided this was the Dovecote because of the vents in the roof for entry and exit

I decided the one below is the Stables because I couldn’t see a way for the doves to get in !

Nothing else to see or do there except a lot of grass and a car park. It was a nice sunny day though and I happily passed the time there snapping away. I expect somewhere there will be more information. All the National Trust book says is that it’s 16th century so I suppose it was built to last and probably part of some large estate.

I will pursue my black and white cause as I have a Fujifilm X-T5 camera. Fujifilm have the facility to alter the ‘recipes’ for the pictures and you can adjust in camera. It is possible to simulate all the old Roll films. The recipe for these photos was a Kodak Tri X 400 there are hundreds of other options to choose from on the Fuji X Weekly website. However I mostly stay with the inbuilt options for styles.
